Volunteer in Nepal and Be the Change in Nepal. We are two social entrepreneurs who have set-up and run three private schools in Nepal where parents do not have to pay any money.

Why we need to charge volunteers? All short term and long term volunteers need to pay to help us sustain the increase in student admissions and teachers salaries. We are also using this income to host over 25 earthquake affected children who will receive boarding, education, clothing, stationary, books etc. The cost is 10€ per day. Long term volunteers staying over 90 days can receive free food and accommodation thereafter. Scholarships are also available on request and are given according to the duration of stay, skills and status of applicant.

There is no one specific type of person we are looking for. The only thing volunteers need to have is a willingness to devote themselves to our projects and an openness to the simple rural life that we live.

There is a lot you can learn about culture, language, politics, ethnicity, farming, construction and the grass root development process with us. Volunteers can get involved in:

Education.
Animal and plant agriculture.
Construction or management depending upon skills and experience.
We prefer to match volunteer experience and desires with our needs and resources during their time.

Hours & Roster

Depending on the job, we generally work 6 hours per day (11am to 5pm).

Nepal is going through difficult times due to the recent earthquake. We are part of the rehabilitation program to help the children who have suffered the most. Maya Universe is the first and only chain of free private schools in Nepal. Instead of paying fees, the parents of the students who study in our schools volunteer for two days of every month. In other words, people can pay us with time instead of money for our services. Our 'Maya' model has been very popular though less than five years old. We are running three schools and plans to build more are on the way. You can take part in a grassroots development process at its early years. Apart from voluntourism, Maya has its own animal, vegetable and fruit farms. We also make handmade bracelets and notebooks and provide workshops to high school kids from Kathmandu city to learn about Nepal. Maya Universe provides a safe shelter despite the recent earthquake damage. We are building basic infrastructure to host children from Gorkha, which was the epicenter of the earthquake.

Amenities & Preferences

Up to 10 volunteers at a time.
Over 18 years old preferred.
Males, females and couples are welcome.
Wired internet.
Potentially gain experience in your field and while having the experience of a lifetime.
