We are proud to work with nature, promoting a low carbon footprint and recycling of sustainable natural resources. In working with nature, we rebuild fertility in the land, making our soil richer, healthier and providing our plants with the stability they need. This also leads to a rich diversity in our environment. This diversity produces delicious, nutritious food packed full of all the nutrients we need and makes us both healthy and happy. Above all, we aim to create a lifestyle that is worth living.

We are dedicated to researching, implementing and teaching permaculture, sustainable agriculture and related "earth first" techniques combining organic gardening, animal rotation systems and natural building methods. Our focus is on integrated and "whole systems" designs with the intention of inspiring others to design, live happy, healthy and fulfilling lives. We need volunteers who are happy to help in the following areas:

Animal care.
Organic vegetable gardening.
Natural building.
Food forest establishment.
Working in the nursery.
Cooking & cleaning.
General maintenance.

Farm Stay
Twin Bed Private

We provide basic style Wendy house accommodation, and will soon be starting to build guest cob cabins. Sharing depends on the number of volunteers at the time. We provide beds, fitted sheets and pillows. Volunteers need to bring their own sleeping bag.

We share food from the garden but as the project is still in the beginning stages and not yet making money, we also share food costs. We share the preparation of food, so special dietary requirements are taken into account.

There are buses from Johannesburg that go to Botswana via Groot Marico. There is also a chance if we are in Johannesburg that we can offer a lift back to the farm.

From Johannesburg Airport: Take the Gautrain (train) to Park Station (Main Bus Station). From the bus station, take the Intercape main liner to Groot Marico it leaves at 13.00h(stay at the bus office/terminal until you get on the bus). Get off at the Groot Marico petrol station
Then contact us and we will come collect you. 072 5522458 (backup 082 9575115 or 082 4485535). If your plane arrives after 10.00, then you might miss the Bus that leaves at 1pm, so then rather stay at the Ritz Backpackers in Rosebank and catch the bus from park station the next day. Email the Ritz(backpackers-ritz.co.za) and arrange for them to collect you from the airport(R120 collect from airport). Then they can drop you the next day at Park station(R60 deliver to park station).

Directions from Johannesburg by car: To Magalisburg, left to Koster R509, @ Koster right to Swartruggens, left N4 to Zeerust, toll is R75. About 20k to Groot Marico, cross over river then first left into Vergenoeg, exactly 2km on left.
