We (WYCF) own and operate our own house. The house has two bedrooms, one living room and one bathroom and serves as our office as well. It is located in Sorie Town, a typical neighbourhood in Freetown which adds to the authentic Sierra Leonean experience. As a volunteer, you will be living with WYCF staff and might be asked to share the bedroom (two persons per room max.). There is no running tap water, but water for personal hygiene is always available in the bathroom.

We charge our guests towards the upkeep of the place. Even though it is a modest house, we make our volunteers’ safety and comfort our priority. Breakfast and dinner (traditional dishes) are cooked by locals as part of your fee.

Getting There

Lungi International Airport (FNA)

Get Free Quote

Transport: The international airport serving Freetown is located in Lungi and requires taking a ferryboat between the two locations. Even though the crossover can only happen between 8 a.m. and 11 p.m., this should not affect your arrival and departure schedule when booking the plane tickets, as we (WYCF) can provide accommodation near the airport if needed.

Passport & Entry Visa: Foreigners are required to have a valid passport when travelling to Sierra Leone. To apply for an entry visa, travellers must contact the nearest Sierra Leonean Embassy or Diplomatic representation. The passport and visa’s validity must exceed the visitors stay in the country.

Vaccinations & Health Care: We advise all our guest volunteers to book a Travel Medicine appointment at least 4 -6 weeks prior to their trip and get proper counselling on all the necessary precautions before travelling to Sierra Leone. Yellow Fever vaccination is required to enter the country and other immunization such as Typhoid, Hepatitis and Meningitis are recommended. Anti-Malaria treatment is essential as well.

Travel Insurance & Emergency Contact Details: Our volunteers must get insured for health care expenses and emergency medical assistance, travel delays or cancellation, lost luggage & property damage / loss / theft. Before the arrival of our volunteer guests, WYCF has to be given all the insurance details and two emergency contacts.
